To woo women voters, DEO holds “Election Awakening for Women”
The District SVEEP committee under the guidance of District Election officer Reasi organised a conference on “Election Awakening for Women” that aims to raise turnout of women voters in the upcoming elections. More than 500 women representatives drawn from all the villages of district and female teachers of Education Department participated in this conference which was held at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Reasi.
District Election Officer Shabir Ahmad Bhatt in his address said women were adept in handling domestic affairs as they participated in the decision-making of the house and “It is time for them to come out in large numbers and take part in the decision making process in the state”
Resource person Shiv Charan on the occasion taught women about the importance of the election process and their votes, and told that each vote is important for the development of the state.
CEO Reasi- Ashok Kumar Sanyal said equitable participation of women in Electoral process is essential for building and strengthening democracy.
PO DRDA Dr Jagdish Mehra said that the SVEEP programme was being carried out in various innovative ways. Senior officials have spoken in special meetings in various schools and colleges. We have been organising brainstorming sessions for niche groups like government employees, non government organisations, doctors, lawyers, teachers, members of PRIs and women’s groups. Booth Level Officers and Anganwadi workers will go door-to-door inviting the people to come out on December 2 and vote. Rangoli, painting and debate, competitions, rallies and awareness conferences were organised for women, youth and rural people,” Dr Mehra added.
